According to the Teach 42 website, there are 10 good reasons to “jailbreak” your iOS device. This ranges from iPhones to iPod touch devices to iPads. The site indicates that this is not illegal, it just makes it so if you have issues, Apple will not support your device until it is restored to factory settings. In fact, a recent release from the Library of Congress and the Copyright Office agree that this is not illegal (details can be found here).
A lot of the reasons on the site are compelling enough to me that I would want to give it a shot on my device, if I had one (hint, hint - future gift, anyone??). You can do much more than what Apple gives you out of the box if you do jailbreak your device. It ranges everything from modifying what can be viewed from the TV-Out port on the devices, to changing the background, to my personal favorite – the iWhiteboard.
Another good website, Speed of Creativity, gives some good instructions on how to use the functionality of the TV-Out port on both the iPad and the iPhone/iPod Touch. If you have something on your screen that you want more than two or three people want to see, this is a great article as to how to connect your device to an external display or projector and then display the contents on the external display/projector.
Working for a company that is a Philadelphia Area IT Solutions company, this information is a welcome addition to our Mobile IT Solutions for Philadelphia. It will allow us to carry small, light-weight devices, such as the iPad or iPod touch, and be able to show a large audience what we are working on.
