Need to Share Your PC Screen? Try Something New AND Cheap!

I like to think I am done with all the new programs and apps from Windows to the good old iPhone. But, I came across something I wanted to share with others, a truly painless way to share your PC’s screen with others.  The makers of logmein.com have released a beta of a product to allow one click screen sharing.  Join.me downloads a small program to your PC, under 2 Mb to be exact, at least on my quick test drive.  After launching the .exe a small menu bar at the top of the screen shows the # of your session.  It also allows you to copy the link directly to clipboard to send to someone else.  The remote party either needs to follow that link or enter the nine digit number and it launches in that browser a view of your screen.

This seems to be in beta, and could use some settings added in my opinion.  It offers no form of security besides pausing the session or closing the program, so if someone has the number for your session the can view as long as your session is still active.  I would really like to see some sort of password added or prompt to allow the remote party to view.  It also appears to require flash 10 so get your flash updated.  Another feature I did not try shows that it even offers a conference phone number so you may even be able to hold impromptu phone meetings with this application also.

As far as the simple factor, I was really impressed. I can’t tell you how many times my parents call me for “free” tech support, like the time the zoomed in to 2500% in windows explorer and couldn’t fix it, and a small easy to use program would work great to connect up and see what the heck they had done now. (I do get some free dinners over there now and then so we’ll call it even.)  I could see when I am working on different projects that a quick way to show what I am doing this simple and fast would be invaluable.  While we do have other solutions for conferencing and meetings that offer more features including the earlier mentioned security, I won’t rule this application out just yet, and the price tag is right up my alley
