Cable TV is a Foul Mistress.

That picture is so depressing.

I’ve been thinking about my cable-free utopia a lot since I’ve installed iOS 4.2 on my iPad. AirPlay is the newest, most important feature to the OS. It lets you stream video, audio, and photos to any AirPlay capable device, wirelessly. So far, the new AppleTV will be the first to allow that. Much to my shagrin, it has no App Store like I was hoping. But, AirPlay could become more important than an AppleTV App Store. At least, for now.

If iOS apps currently deliver video with the default iOS player(think no custom UI), you’ll be able to stream that video to an AppleTV out of the box. The MLB app has the AirPlay option on the iPad. Fire up the app on your iPhone, hit the AirPlay button, and you’re watching the game on your flatscreen.

In terms of audio and video, the current App Store can act as a store for the new AppleTV. The questionable apps would be Hulu, or the ABC app as they use different, custom methods of displaying the video. But Arnold Kim of MacRumors thinks such AirPlay capabilities could be added after the fact.

Imagine in a few years when new TVs are being made with built-in AirPlay. You can walk over to a friends house with a new movie you rented on your iPhone and stream it to his TV in HD. If you just downloaded a new song your friend might like, stream it to their speakers.

My dreams of an NHL app are now rising from the ashes. For better or worse.

Sure this article had next to nothing about IT Support in Wayne, PA, but MAN was it entertaining, right?
