Exploding iPhones in Europe….Oh Joy

It was recently released that several nations in Europe are starting to investigate the allegations that people's iPhones and iPods are exploding or catching fire. There have been several incidents now; some that have caused property damage and one that actually injured a person. As I do not have an iPhone, but follow the news and releases about iPhones while dreaming of owning one, I was a little alarmed. I thought to myself that this is the kind of thing you rule out in testing...does product explode: yes it does explode - fix or no it does not explode - sell. Will these incidents shatter my dreams of having an iPhone? Nope, still want one.
Now, I have read the stories of iPhones exploding in the US before with the previous iPhone release. But there really isn't much to be alarmed about, there are millions of iPhones in use and only a handful have had catastrophic failures. Apple is assuring that these are isolated incidents.
You could play it safe though and use a phone that has Windows Mobile. I have not heard of any of those phones exploding or catching fire. Of course, I have not heard of them working all the time either. I guess a bunch of small failures spread about is better than one big failure.
Apple has not commented on these allegations as they are waiting to receive the pieces and parts to analyze...I am sure they have an app for that.
